Workers had much more control of their working environment in the 1960s when unions were stonger. Most companies offered at least short-term disability in addition to workman's comp. There were usually arraignments for long-term disability of workers, as well. This failure of the Republican Party to protect everyday workers and keep them at the same level as others around the world began 45-50 years ago. We cannot be surprised that our fellow Americans are poor, sick, dying, homeless and struggling to keep jobs that will not sustain them. Now is when we need a true President who is solidly on our side.
