Today we are excited to announce the celebration
of three published books by our amazing student authors who are sitting in the front row here
today. We’ve got some leaders in here. We’ve
got some folks who are going to make a difference in the world. 1, 2, 3, YouthBuild Who wants to go first? “Where I am from” I am from a broken home in a busy parent.
Where hands are busy through the day and tired, but they keep going. Where I am from is called
Bull City. Self-love is the best love. Now every morning
I look in the mirror and before I go to sleep, I tell myself, “I am beautiful, I am strong.” When I told my mom that I was writing a book, she thought I was the next Stephen King. When she gets mad at me, she’ll be like, “You can’t do this, you can’t do that.” and I’m like, “Mom, you’re talking to an author.” I’ve got to speak the truth. It’s not what other people think. It’s what they get to see and hear. You can change a person’s
opinion by just being the opposite of what just being the opposite of what you thought you were. He’s coming back all the way after he’s
graduated to read his story. When I think of YouthBuild, I think of young
teenagers trying to build up their education. I’m from parents who are immigrants who
sacrificed their lives for ours to have a better future. Together we can be proud of
who we are. Sincerely, Reese. Don’t allow anybody to make you feel that
you are nobody. Always feel that you count. Strength runs in our blood along with determination
and nothing will stop us. Persist. Persist. Fight for your dreams and
don’t let them die. Dream. [background talking]
