Samuel Rose

P1060851Samuel Rose has a background in organic agriculture, community development, and pedagogy.  After acquiring a B.S. in Plant Science from Cornell University and an M.A. in Science Education from the City College Of New York, he spent several years teaching biology and earth science in an inner city high school.  Later he had the chance to take this educational role from the classroom to the field, leading courses and managing field science programs in the Galapagos Islands and later Mexico.  When the opportunity presented itself, Sam co-founded the nonprofit, Raíz De Fondo (Deep Roots), in La Paz, BCS, Mexico, which establishes community gardens and offers educational opportunities open to the public in organic gardening, nutrition, sustainability, and social empowerment.   As Director, he is able to marry his passion for education, community development, and sustainable agriculture.  When not at work, Sam enjoys spending time with his family, camping, riding his bike (especially now that he has a baby seat for his son), and reading.

About Raiz de Fundo (La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico): The mission of Raíz De Fondo Jardines Y Educación A.C. (aka, Raíz De Fondo) is to create a network of gardens in Baja California Sur that provide inspiration and educational opportunities in organic gardening, healthy food preparation and consumption, and water conservation while reclaiming under-utilized spaces and strengthening community connections.
