Karen Burns serves as the Community Development Director at the Island Institute in Rockland, Maine, an organization dedicated to the sustainability of Maine’s 15 year round island communities. Karen oversees a variety of community-based programs including the award winning Island Fellows Program, the Island Scholars Network and the Maine Islands Coalition. With an undergraduate degree from Amherst College and a master’s degree from the University of Maine, Karen is a resident of Vinalhaven Island and an alumna of the Island Fellows Program.
