Wyoming To Make Special Announcement at SHIFT

At the 2016 SHIFT Festival, Wyoming Governor Matt Mead joined Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper in opening the event to the public. As reported here, Governor Mead used the opportunity to announce the creation of an outdoor recreation task force for the state.

On Thursday, Nov. 2, at SHIFT, Nephi Cole, Senior Policy Advisor for Governor Mead, will make a special announcement regarding the task force’s recommendations.

While the details of the announcement remain under wrap, senior officials in the Governor’s office report they will represent good news for the State of Wyoming as it attempts to diversify its economy.

This year’s SHIFT explores the business case for public lands: how investments in outdoor recreation and the conservation of public lands contribute to economic prosperity.

SHIFT Director Christian Beckwith believes it’s thus fitting the announcement be made during this year’s Festival.

“Governor Mead has made a blended economy a priority,” he said. “As the state moves forward from the decline in markets for oil, natural gas and coal, investments in outdoor recreation represent a bright opportunity for Wyoming’s future.”

“Emphasizing the benefits of those opportunities will be a focal point of this year’s SHIFT.”

Cole’s announcement will be made on Thursday morning, just before the breakfast keynote by John Northington, who will present on lessons from the oil and gas industry for the outdoor recreation community.

Tickets to the presentation may be purchased here.
